Content
- Optical fiber waveguides: ray theory, slab waveguide, step index and grade index fibers
- Transmission characteristics of optical fiber: attenuation, intramodal and intermodal dispersion, scatterings
- Fiber fabrication, cables and passive components
- Optical sources: laser diode, light emitting diode
- Optical detectors: p-i-n photodiodes, avalanche photodiode detector
- Optical fiber systems: direct and coherent detections (if time permits)
